Introducing the brand new Sun Princess® in the Mediterranean

Princess Cruises®’ incredible new ship is also its best. Here’s what you need to know.
With some of the largest ships in the world, the best itineraries and an eye for personalised service, Princess Cruises has established itself as a favourite with travellers and cruise lovers. And if you love travel, you’ll love the cruise line’s newest addition.
Joining the fleet in 2024, Sun Princess includes everything Princess guests love then takes it one step further, with exclusive areas, incredible design and state-of-the-art technology set to wow travellers.
The ship
Catering for 4300 guests, this next-generation ship strikes a balance between offering an extensive range of entertainment and dining options and specialist amenities and leisure activities. It does so while also curating a range of intimate, exclusive spaces and experiences for guests.
At the heart of the 177,882-tonne Sun Princess is the multi-level sphere. On the outside, its pleasing curves give the ship a futuristic aesthetic and unmissable silhouette; on the interior, the sphere provides an open-concept atrium, engulfed in natural light and magnificent sea views.
On the top level sits The Dome, the world’s first geodesic, glass-enclosed structure on a cruise ship, which offers a pool experience by day and a performance stage by night.
The staterooms
Travellers can choose from more than 1500 reimagined staterooms with balcony views, each featuring contemporary designs and cutting-edge technology. Cabana mini-suites offer extra space for relaxing outdoors, while the ship’s new two-bedroom, two-bathroom suites are perfect for intergenerational travellers.
Guests will love the ship’s premium accommodation options, with amenities stretching beyond the room to include exclusive dining, accommodations and private spaces throughout the ship. For those staying in Signature Collection suites, this includes access to Signature Restaurant, Signature Lounge and the private Signature Sun Deck area of The Sanctuary, the exclusive adults-only chill-out zone.
Meanwhile, guests staying in Reserve Collection suites have access to premium locations, mini-suites and cabanas, with exclusive access to a private restaurant and cabana deck.
Sun Princess has also introduced next-level medallion technology. The size of a 20-cent piece, your medallion unlocks your cabin door when you approach, can locate the rest of your travel group and – as part of Princess’s OceanNow® service – allows food and drinks to be delivered to you anywhere on the ship. It also remembers your coffee and drink preferences.
The entertainment
The genius of this next-generation ship is that each space is multi-purpose and designed to enhance your travel experience even further.
Swim in the pool during sunlight hours, then stick around as it transforms into a stage where you can watch a show created by Cirque Éloize at night. The Princess Arena (the biggest theatre in the fleet) offers shows in the round, while in the Piazza there’s even a retractable stage for performances and events.
From trivia to karaoke, dancing to live music, there’s a range of performances and events in smaller, more intimate venues throughout the ship. And don’t forget: each night, there’s also the chance to cosy up under a blanket to watch a movie under the stars at the Lido Pool, a much-loved Princess pastime.
For some serious pampering between destinations, don’t miss the Sun Princess’s luxurious two-storey Lotus Spa. Or browse the on-board boutiques featuring more than 200 premium brands.
Food and drink
From poolside tacos to sneaky scoops of gelato and elevated fine dining, Princess guests love their culinary experiences – and to exceed their expectations, Sun Princess boasts over 30 food and cocktail venues.
Princess favourites like Crown Grill, Sabatini’s and Crooners feature in the dining line-up, alongside exciting new concepts such as Umai Teppanyaki and intimate high-end dining at Love By Britto, and exclusive pop-up restaurant experiences like The Butcher’s Block by Dario. Central to the ship’s dining experience is the elegant three-level Horizons Dining Room, serving multicourse meals with spectacular sea views.
Understanding the Australian appetite for a decent caffeine hit, Coffee Currents is located in the Piazza. And for an immersive adults-only night out, visit Spellbound, which combines dining, cocktails, theatre and magic in the ship’s very own speakeasy (book well in advance for what’s fast becoming one of the ship’s most popular experiences).
Celebrity mixologist Rob Floyd’s Good Spirits at Sea cocktail bar is making its debut on Sun Princess, offering over 200 cocktails created exclusively for the ship. If you’re keen on a different tipple, there’s a cheeky new Irish pub, O’Malley’s.
And of course, a favourite Princess tradition is also included – see the amazing champagne waterfall in the Piazza.
Itineraries
Sun Princess is currently sailing on her inaugural Mediterranean summer session in Europe, with marquee stops in Greece, Turkey, Italy and Spain. The ship will then head to the Caribbean for the winter season.
It’s already on my bucket list of things I want to do (as a past guest of Princess Cruises).
