Would you pay to board a mystery cruise? Thousands do - here's why.

Uniworld cruises some of the most beautiful rivers systems in the world, such as the Rhine.
The element of surprise is helping travellers reconnect with the spontaneous joy of travelling.
With holiday time so scarce, most of us meticulously plan every detail of our itineraries before we depart. But what if you left all that to someone else, and set off without knowing exactly where you were going?

S.S. Emilie is Uniworld’s newest ship, and will host all of 2026’s Mystery Cruise itineraries.
Enter Uniworld’s Mystery Cruises, a concept built on surprising guests. Passengers are given only the embarkation and disembarkation cities, the trip length and little else. Everything beyond that remains a mystery, revealed only once they’re on board. Uniworld’s 2026 mystery sailings have just been announced: one cruise between Amsterdam and Bamberg, and another between Bamberg and Vienna, with the option to combine both journeys into a longer adventure. All the sailings will take place on Uniworld’s brand-new ship, S.S. Emilie.

One of Uniworld’s 2026 mystery cruises starts in Amsterdam, but guests will not know which ports the ship with sail to.
“It was a big surprise when the first Mystery Cruise sold out so quickly after launch,” says Alice Ager, Managing Director of Uniworld (Australia and New Zealand). “We assumed it would appeal mostly to our past guests who already trust Uniworld. But actually, 75 per cent of bookings came from first-time guests – people who didn’t know us before but were simply looking for something different and fun.”

To keep the sense of mystery alive throughout the journey, Uniworld unveils each day’s destination and activities the night before, ensuring that passengers are being constantly surprised.
“Guests don’t have to think, Where will I be on Monday? Where will I eat dinner on Tuesday? Where am I sleeping on Wednesday? It’s all taken care of,” says Ager. “I think that’s what’s appealed to people’s sense of fun.”

Uniworld offers unparalleled luxury on some of the world’s most beautiful waterways.
Mystery cruises tap into a growing travel trend centred on spontaneity – from mystery flights, where the destination is revealed only upon landing, to mystery holiday planners, who curate entire trips that remain a secret until the day of departure. In an era of oversaturated social media and instant access to information, it’s easy to feel like you’ve already ‘seen’ a place before you even get there. But when you don’t know where you’re headed, you’re forced to embrace the unexpected, which at the end of the day, is what the joy of travel is all about.
