95. Royal Mansour Marrakesh, Morocco
Ranked #95 in our countdown of the 100 Best Hotels and Resorts in the World.
Marrakesh’s Royal Mansour is Morocco by way of Hollywood, a sublimely beautiful Arabian fantasy. Behind massive bronze portals, rows of palms, pools, and trickling fountains are three-storey riads in a luxury mini-medina.
The traditional Moroccan craftsmanship – zellige tiling, glowing tadelakt walls, carved mashrabiya screens, handwoven carpets – is dazzling. The sumptuous riads have their own private rooftop terraces with fireplaces and heated plunge pools.
Each has their own discreet butler (staff appear magically via underground tunnels). French chef of the moment, Yannick Alléno, devised the menus for the fine-dining restaurants.
The spa is an exquisite, ethereally white retreat and the bar shimmers with gold. There’s a telescope for stargazing in the library and cigar lounge like a precious jewel box.
Size 53 riads (villas)
Did you know In free loving 1967 the Rolling Stones decamped to Marrakesh to escape the pressure of an impending drug trial; Brian Jones’ girlfriend left him for bandmate Keith Richards.
