One&Only Palmilla, Los Cabos
Once you’ve visited, it’s hard to stay away from this mesmerising patch of paradise (just ask the jet-set). We’ve got your guide on how to fly, stay and play in style in Mexico’s majestic hot spot of Los Cabos.
There’s a reason Los Cabos, on the sunny southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, remains the ultimate A-list getaway. Actually, there are a few: think reliably dazzling weather, dramatic ocean vistas, rolling golf courses, and a wealth of seaside adventure and leisure activities, all rolled up in that unmistakable desert-meets-ocean ambience; a deeply relaxed vibe that imbues every visitor with an envy-inducing holiday glow.
The location
Los Cabos actually encompasses two towns: Cabo San Lucas, a former fishing village-turned-vibrant hot spot that now hums with both nightlife and ocean life; and the more laid-back San José del Cabo, where authentic gems including artisan shops, an 18th-century mission, brightly painted cantinas and rustic farm-to-table eateries abound.
Between these two towns you’ll find a 30-kilometre stretch of the high life in a string of exclusive seaside resorts – including One&Only Palmilla, the secluded luxury bolt-hole for Hollywood royalty (from George Clooney to Jennifer Aniston) seeking time out of the spotlight.
The facilities
Every facet of this sprawling, palm-dotted paradise displays dedication to the pursuit of ultra-luxury: individual spa villas for blissful pampering, beauty venues headed by renowned celebrity stylists, golf course by Jack Nicklaus, and an amazing KidsOnly Club that could see them dabbling in sushi classes and tennis-clinics.
The food
Then there’s the dining: wagyu or kobe beef and local spiny lobster at SEARED – Jean George signature restaurant, the freshest local specialties served al fresco at Agua by Larbi, and stunning sushi and ceviche perfectly matched with the finest sakes at Suviche. Even indulge in a tequila tasting class should you want to fully immerse.
Villa One
Following a recent refresh, the latest jewel in the resort’s crown is the newly unveiled Villa One, a spectacular imagining of private luxury brought to life.
Larger than life, in fact: featuring four beautifully bedrooms with glass to ceiling vistas, indoor-outdoor decadence perfect to entertain, offering both spectacular ocean views and complete privacy.
Villa guests also enjoy expansive private terraces complete with fire pit and infinity-edge pool, dedicated Butler including private fitness trainer and spa therapist, and personally stocked pantry.
Getting there
Of course, you’ve got to travel in style to a place like this. Delta Air Lines and partner Virgin Australia fly from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Los Angeles 25 times a week (twice-daily during peak season), connecting easily with Delta’s daily services to Los Cabos.
With three cabin types, the choice is yours: we’ve got to admit Delta One sounds right up our alley, with Westin Heavenly in-flight bedding on 180-degree, forward facing flat-bed seats with direct aisle access, and luxe amenities from cult skincare brand Kiehl’s Since 1851.
Comfort+ cabins boast additional legroom, bonus seat recline and a complimentary sleep kit; while the main cabin is a fabulous affordable option with all the entertainment, plus that essential sleep kit to ensure everyone arrives refreshed and ready to relax on their holiday of a lifetime… or to dream about it all over again, on the way home.
