43. The Connaught, London, UK
Ranked #43 in our countdown of the 100 Best Hotels and Resorts in the World.
“Service is exquisite. Afternoon tea is scrumptious. Truly a place where the details are done right.” Darrell Hartman
In the heart of Mayfair, The Connaught has been a byword for discretion and service for 100-plus years.
After its 2007 refurb it remains traditional with timber panelling, gold-leafed baronial mahogany staircase – but rooms and suites are elegant and contemporary. Modern flourishes include a subterranean pool and the sublime Aman Spa.
French chef Hélène Darroze oversees the double-Michelin-starred restaurant as well as Espelette in the conservatory. The Connaught Bar mixes some of London’s best cocktails, or stop by the sexy, dark-hued Coburg Bar for a late-night cognac.

Did you know French President General Charles de Gaulle stayed here in 1940 and it is said he planned the D-Day landings during this time.
