The 15th-century Il Salviatino meshes Florentine heritage with a flourish of Baroque extravagance and a savvy dash of contemporary style. It’s very welcoming, very low-key.

Burnished Tuscan yellow walls, studded chesterfields, creamy-white Poltrona Frau leather sofas and original frescoes set the tone. Each guestroom has a dedicated service ambassador (well, butler).

There’s a herb-laden garden, terraced pool with views and a small spa. Michelin-starred chef Carmine Caló creates formal meals for Le Serre, where you dine beneath splendid chandeliers, and La Terrazza offers Tuscan fare with a twist.
